Detail of the stay : Wine route of the Lot - 3 days

  • Cahors
  • Cahors

Day 1: Les Coteaux de Glanes

At the end of the 1960's, the Vignerons du Haut-Quercy, a group of passionate people, replanted a vineyard with Merlot, Gamay and Segalin grape varieties, adapted to the climate and the land here. Since then, they produce IGP Coteaux de Glanes wines. The winegrowers work in a cooperative spirit but beware, they receive visitors in each property and the sale is done directly at their place. A discovery path, which starts in the center of the village to reach the heights, gives you indications on the vineyard, the grape varieties, the history and the landscape.

Day 2: Malbec, the wine of Cahors

Steps: Cahors

We are heading to the production area of Cahors wine, which has had an AOC since the 1970s. We suggest you start with a tasting at the Villa Malbec in Cahors, the showcase of the AOC, to understand the complexity of the wines of the appellation. Then, you can opt for a visit to one of the great names of Cahors: Lagrezette, Vigouroux, Chambert or Eugénie. We advise you to choose one of these four great names and then complete your visit with a smaller estate. Indeed, Cahors is as much about the big estates as it is about more confidential productions. The future of Cahors is also at stake behind the small estates with the younger generation, perhaps more playful and less conventional. We suggest two estates: Clos d'Audhuy with Benoît Aymard and Lacombe-La-Serre with Julien Ilbert.

Day 3: The Coteaux du Quercy

Steps: Cahors

The Quercy vineyard spreads between Cahors and Montauban, Lauzerte and Bruniquel, straddling the Lot and its neighbor Tarn-et-Garonne. It is a small vineyard holding an AOP since 2011, shared by 33 producers who work for a cooperative cellar. Cabernet Franc, the main grape variety of Coteaux du Quercy, is present at 60% in the final blend, associated with complementary grape varieties: côt, merlot and gamay. The winegrowers of the Coteaux du Quercy AOC are mobilized to give guarantees on the potential of their vineyard. The first of the stops is scheduled on the border of the Lot in the commune of Montpezat-du-Quercy (82) at the Vignerons du Quercy winery.
