As a country in Oceania, the mere mention of Fiji brings with it the promise of paradise islands, lazing in a lagoon against an azure sky, idyllic white-sand beaches bathed in turquoise waters... and the cliché is entirely justified. A visit to this corner of the South Pacific, made up of more than three hundred small islands - from the beautiful Viti Levu to Vanua Levu, via the well-guarded Lomaitivi archipelago, not forgetting Taveuni and, of course, the Mamanucas and Yasawas islands - gives you the feeling of being on a postcard. And if that's all it was! The inhabitants of these mountainous, rainforest-covered expanses, where the ocean is everywhere, are incredibly welcoming, living almost out of time, with a smile on their lips, proud of their country and their culture. A surfer's Eldorado with the most beautiful beaches and the destination of choice for honeymoons, family trips or a diving holiday in the coral reefs, the sun shines all year round on virgin and majestic territories through which the Fiji travel guide will accompany you. Enjoy your trip to the other side of the world under the coconut trees!

Weather all year round

Fiji's weather depends on the two seasons that punctuate the year: a dry season, which extends from May to October, and a rainy season from November to April. During the dry season, Fiji's average temperatures range from 22 to 27°C; during the rainy season, between 25 and 32°C.

Budget

The Fijian currency is the Fijian dollar (FJD). The cost of living on the two main islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, is affordable. Outside, it is more complicated: between the price of the boat, the hotel, the activities, the bill climbs quite quickly. This is because most of these services are high-end. Fortunately, there are passes that allow you to enjoy the Yasuwas and Mamanucas islands without breaking your piggy bank. Tipping is not very common.

Procedures

To travel to Fiji, a valid passport, whose expiry date exceeds the departure date by three months, is required. A four-month visa is issued automatically and free of charge when you arrive in the country. Then count on 25 € for a two-month extension, the maximum duration of a stay in Fiji being six months.

Health

No vaccinations are required to enter Fiji, unless you come from a country with yellow fever. Fiji is not infected with malaria. Only dengue fever and occasional typhoid outbreaks are reported. To protect yourself from dengue fever, it is important to avoid mosquitoes, the main vector of transmission. Mosquito nets, repellents and appropriate clothing (long sleeves) in dark colors are the best ways to protect yourself from mosquito bites. Although temperatures rarely exceed 33°C and a pleasant breeze often makes the atmosphere very pleasant, the sun and its UV rays are harmful. On the water, the sun's reflection is extremely powerful. Don't skimp on sunscreen, apply it every two hours. If possible, cover your head to avoid sunstroke. Water is not drinkable in Fiji. Do not hesitate to bring a bottle of mineral water!
