PORT VIEUX

Port
5/5

La Ciotat is the beginning of the Riviera after Marseille, the place where you finally feel like you're on the French Riviera. It looks like Cannes with its palm trees and seaside restaurants but much simpler. La Ciotat has 4 harbours that can accommodate more than 1,500 boats: theMarina, the Port des Capucins, the Port Saint-Jean, and finally the Port Vieux.Old but new at the same time, since it has just undergone a major rehabilitation project. 10 months of work and a result that has lived up to the expectations of the Ciotadens for many years.

LE VIEUX PORT

Port
4.5/5
15 reviews

The first phase of one of the windows of Marseille, the place of convergence of the Marseille people, took place just before the event Marseille Provence 2013. The semi-piétonisation of this highly mineral natural space pays homage to its original aspect of 26 centuries ago, when Protis reaches its vaisseau vessel in the calanque of the Lacydon. The Old Port has been completely redesigned, redesigned, and the beautiful share has been made to pedestrians that significantly reduce the previously dedicated place for motorists. The second stage, with the end of the paving of the Island of Neuve (delivery before summer 2016) and the Port Pier (in 2017), as well as the creation of a parks of the Catalans and Fort Saint-Nicolas parks, and that of a public garden in the Anse du Pharo, started in September 2015 and will end in 2020. If the barriers to the Old Port have disappeared, further improvements have been made to the use of recreational boaters.

The Autonomous Port of Marseille is the number one in France and is particularly used for its regular lines to the Maghreb, Corsica and its neighbouring island, Sardinia. It has enclosed and secure cruise terminals and is very easy to access, as it is served by numerous means of public transport via the Joliette, metro or tranway. Numerous cruises also stop here since the city's tourist boom in 2013.

GARE SNCF D'ARLES

Railway station
4/5
1 review

The location of this station on the Paris-Lyon-Miramas line is very interesting for travellers who wish to visit the nearby city centre with its pleasant lanes and beautiful houses steeped in history. Built in the 19th century, it is an integral part of the city's heritage. However, its attractions end there. The ticket offices are frequently closed due to a lack of staff, and the infrastructure is basic; the shop is only open in high season. At the same time, we only go there to take the train...

Designed by architects Jean-Marie Duthilleul and Etienne Tricaud and built on the Arbois plateau, the station is within easy reach of Aix-en-Provence city center (13 km) and Marseille-Provence airport (11 km). The simplest and most economical solution is to take the shuttle that links the TGV station to the Aix bus station. Once on the train, you'll reach the capital in around 3 hours. A fast and privileged link to Paris.

GARE ROUTIÈRE

Bus station
2.3/5
4 reviews

Aix-en-Provence's new bus station features twenty platforms and architecture by Jean-Marie Duthilleul, who also designed the Aix TGV station. A real success! Accessible to all, close to downtown and the freeway. Departures and arrivals are to nearby towns and villages, the most important line being, of course, the one linking Aix to Marseille: a bus every 5 min at rush hour! The Conseil départemental's Cartreize (Car 13) network also serves Aubagne, La Ciotat, Vitrolles, Martigues, Arles and Salon-de-Provence. A fast, economical way to get around, with connections all day long. A little cramped at its site in the center of Aix, it has recently been relieved of certain lines to the P+r exchange hub at Plan d'Aillane in Les Milles (lines 40 and 53 to Aix TGV and Marseille bus station...), as well as to platforms at the P+r Krypton (access via line 7 platform no. 4). It should be noted that access to the "grande accessibilité" bus, reserved for people with reduced mobility, which leaves every hour for Marseille, has just been transferred in 2017 to a platform in the Krypton car park-and-ride facility.

A recent company created in May 2016 out of the ashes of SNCM. With a fleet of seven ships, it offers crossings from Marseilles on one of its four mixed cargo vessels (passengers and freight) to Ajaccio, Bastia, Ile-Rousse and Porto-Vecchio. Journeys to Sardinia, Algeria and Tunisia are also provided. Some ships can accommodate more than 2,000 passengers and up to 800 vehicles. The staff is attentive and comfortable, with each ship having bars, snack bars and restaurants. In 2017, Corsica Linea still carried 560,000 passengers. Promotions are offered online.

TUNNEL PRADO CARÉNAGE

Public transport
1/5
1 review

A 2,450-metre underground traffic axis, the Prado-Carénage Tunnel links the city's southern districts and the East motorway in a few minutes, in the city centre, and, to the north via the Old Port Tunnel, the Major Tunnel and the Joliette Tunnel, the Coastal Motorway. For a few euros, you can avoid traffic jams in the city centre during rush hour, and gain in speed as well, since it will only take you a few minutes to get from La Capelette to La Joliette. First toll urban tunnel in France. Possibilities of subscriptions and preferential rates for one or two tunnels: Prado fairing only and/or Prado Tunnel south only.
