The Eure is Normandy, a stone's throw from Paris and the sea. This proximity is reinforced by a dense network of road and rail infrastructures. The department is thus just one hour from the capital, by road and by rail. Combining nature, culture and pleasure of living, Eure has the discreet charm of those departments which abound in architectural, historical and tourist treasures, to be discovered in the bend of villages, at the crossroads of paths or in the heart of towns. The cuisine of the Eure is based on Norman products: milk, cheese, cream, and of course apples and their derivatives, cider and calvados. This destination also has a strong tradition of livestock farming, so it is not difficult to find excellent meat, especially beef. The Eure is not to be outdone among the Normandy departments for the production of cheese. Beside the traditional camembert, pont-l'évêque, livarot, there are some cheese specialties, like the pavé du Plessis, in Noards in Lieuvin, the caugéen, delicious goat cheese produced nearÉvreux. Cider, a Norman specialty par excellence, is widely present in the Eure. There are several categories of cider: sweet or brut according to its degree of alcohol; corked, dry or sparkling according to its fermentation. The apple is also used to produce calvados, a brandy resulting from the fermentation of cider, but also pommeau (an aperitif with a strength of 16 to 18 degrees).

When to go to Eure?

When to go to the Eure ? The "green lung" of Normandy is particularly well suited to hiking all year round, with hundreds of kilometers of marked trails, in the forest, along the river, in the fields... Not to mention all the local itineraries to visit the villages of the Eure. Six greenways, 140 kilometers in total, crisscross the department in all directions, rehabilitating disused railroads, towpaths or forest trails. Well-equipped with suitable surfaces, picnic areas and parking, bike rental or loan in nearby accommodations, they are all reasons to travel the Eure by bike, with family or friends. Although there are no beaches, this destination hides a few beautiful leisure and open-air bases, the most famous of which is that of Poses: a huge artificial lake with playgrounds, water sports and restaurants to enjoy the summer days. 1,000 kilometers of rivers, including 600 in the first category, we are here in a fishing department! Fly fishing, no kill, pond fishing, night carp fishing, every fisherman, whether a beginner or an experienced angler, will find his happiness here among the carp, trout and pike that populate the rivers, ponds and lakes.
