La Meulière, an organic artisan bakery founded in 1994 by Achim Schulzbongert, has always championed "eating well" for better health. An ethic shared by Théo Bouvier, who worked with this master baker for nine years and took over the business in 2022. The charming little store, with its rustic decor and stone millstone in front, is equipped with a mill for preparing organic wholemeal spelt flours and various flakes. Visitors come for the wide range of sourdough breads, viennoiseries, cakes and original snacks.

It was here, in Charolles, that (the late) Bernard Dufoux founded his first chocolate factory, in 1960. Since then, the company has gone from strength to strength. In addition to its tempting boutique, the Charolles address is worth a detour for its production workshop, where chocolatiers and pastry chefs reveal the secrets of their trade to the public, and give classes. The chocolates they make are of the highest quality, using sometimes rare cocoa beans and exceptional hazelnuts and pistachios. Attractive subjects in original shapes are also produced for special events.

We've fallen in love with this pretty downtown bonbonnière, with its solid reputation. You look at the window with the eyes of a child at all the delicacies on display and the poetic staging. And as soon as you step through the door, the magic happens. Caramels, candies, chocolates, almonds, macaroons, calissons, teas, honey and other delicacies, including the famous mâconnaise wafer, are available to taste on the spot or to take away. The smell of sugar and the sight of bonbonnières filled with pretty colors are a temptation to crime that's hard to resist.
