LES AUBINEAUX RESTAURANT
Read moreLocated under the varangue and the glass gallery of the magnificent colonial house, away from the noise and pollution of the city center, it is the most authentic, elegant and flowery setting of this part of the island. On the terrace with a view of the park, or in the house amidst the antique furniture, you can enjoy a fusion cuisine that combines French know-how with the many local flavors. The menu also offers some revisited brasserie dishes and famous pizzas such as the 1872, a specialty of the Aubineaux restaurant... to discover!
LA CLEF DES CHAMPS
Read moreFor about forty years, Jacqueline Dalais, the grande dame of Mauritian gastronomy, has been cooking French cuisine that speaks Creole. Her brigade receives guests in the refined setting of a residential residence well known to the island's fine gourmets. The menu is full of fish and shellfish, meat and game, great classics of French cuisine, and gives pride of place to recipes from the past and to the reference dishes that have made and continue to make the success of the house, such as sea urchin cappuccino and cassava mouillettes. Wine list in tune with the times.
BISTRO BARBU
Read moreIt's the trendy bistro of the plateau cities: a bargain-hunter's bar made of recycled objects found in attics and flea markets, an informal New Age bar atmosphere, the friendly atmosphere of a grandmother's house where you can come and eat simple, fresh dishes: tapas, mixed salads, burgers, melting lamb, home fries, French toast... The drinks menu is displayed on the screen of an old TV, a bicycle is waiting in the entrance, plants are slumbering in crates... We grab the press and settle in.
DRAGON VERT
Read moreIt has been full for years and enjoys an excellent reputation with the locals, such as the adjoining sign, King Dragon, which belongs to the same owner. Since its renovation, the setting, less Chinese than European, plays on a monochrome of natural tones (taupe, grey, chocolate). The menu remains mostly Asian, and the plates are as copious as the bill is light. To observe the incessant ballet of the main street, choose a table in the glass verandah on the first floor.
KING DRAGON
Read moreAlongside the Dragon Vert, which belongs to the same owner, this is the other Chinese restaurant in the area, with a more classic, typical and darker setting, with walls covered in glazed wood panels. We stroll and wander through the usual mile-long menu of Asian dishes and their varied sauces and seasonings. Overall, it's tasty and served in generous portions. The seafood specialties are particularly popular, so don't hesitate to try the steamed crab and the 5 Merveilles prawns.
LA POTINIÈRE
Read moreA few years ago, this historic downtown restaurant relocated to the green, next to the Corson factory, opposite the tea plantations. Nature takes center stage even in the industrial, plant-based dining room, as well as on the menu, where vegetarian dishes feature prominently, such as green tagliatelle with spinach and caripoulé pesto. Otherwise, all the house classics are there: palm soufflé and shrimps in red sauce, crab gratin, beef dry curry, Bougrement bon and its vanilla cream... A sure bet.
HAPPY RAJAH
Read moreTwin brother of the famous Happy Rajah in Grand Bay, the best Indian restaurant in the north of the island, the Phoenix restaurant has all the same advantages: a convenient location at the entrance of a shopping centre, a diligent service by a welcoming team, great Indian chefs at the stove, and a quality of restoration combined with very tight prices... The varied menu offers a selection of about sixty dishes, including traditional Indian dishes from the 17th century. The setting is subdued and warm, with ochre plasterwork and Rajasthani antiques.
