This is Black River's only seaside restaurant: slightly overhanging the beach, under thatched kiosks, a few tables languish on decks bordered by a bar and swimming pool. Cool by day, soft and subdued by night. The menu exalts well-cooked products from Mauritius and beyond: tapas to share, fresh salads, Creole dishes, grills, sweet treats... Don't forget to book in advance, as the place is renowned and very busy on Fridays and Saturdays, when musicians make the dishes sing.

In the heart of nature, this is the most bucolic restaurant in the area: a group of small chalets opening onto a large square of greenery, where a few tables and chairs under umbrellas welcome morning snacks, lunches with friends, and snacks just off the beach. The menu echoes this simplicity, offering a choice of mixed salads, vegetarian dishes, Mauritian fare and sweet treats. On-site: lounge-library, boutiques in chic cabanas ( healthy products, groceries...), spa and guesthouse (9 rooms).

A beach club with bohemian chic charm, this fabulous Buddha-Bar, located on the beach of the luxury Sugar Beach hotel, conveys the DNA of the brand: hospitality, well-being, gastronomy, mixology and music. In a setting with a wide range of atmospheres, the master mixologists prepare fabulous cocktails to be enjoyed with contemporary fusion cuisine. The principle of tasting is based on sharing, echoing the festive and cool art of living conveyed by Buddha-Bar, to the rhythms of the famous signature compilations sublimated by DJs from here and elsewhere.

It's impossible to miss the bright yellow and red of this Italian restaurant on the main road, facing the salt flats. A few tables almost on the sidewalk, a handful of others in the dining room, and the rest in the open air in a pretty interior patio. It is the Frenchman Eric who runs the place, and we don't skimp on quality: organic arugula, cold cuts imported from the Botte region, raw cheeses... Pasta and ravioli are fresh and homemade, the salads are generous and the artisanal pizzas are cooked in a state-of-the-art wood-fired oven. Yummy!

Created by twin brothers from Montpellier, this is Flic-en-Flac's greenest restaurant, a room extended by an exotic garden on the coast road. In the center, a stage and dance floor welcome revelers for the very popular Mauritian sega-buffet evenings on Fridays or live concerts on Saturdays. Weekend dining with music. The varied menu revisits local products with a French twist, at prices that are proportionally correct.

Located in the Seastar hotel, a charming little downtown hotel, the restaurant welcomes outside guests at any time of day in its different areas: air-conditioned dining room, pretty courtyard by the pool and Balinese-style rooftop-lounge - one of the city's most popular spots, with bar, deckchairs and teak furniture. Asian chef Yu, well known in Mauritius, orchestrates a tasty menu with Mediterranean and Mauritian accents. Don't miss the Sega evening on Mondays (buffet, live band, dancing) or the BBQ on Thursdays (singer).

It's THE traditional French bakery and patisserie in Mauritius, also present in Grand Baie and Port Louis, which respects the artisanal baking tradition of natural leavening for baguettes and special breads (tourte de seigle, boule aux céréales bio...) just like at home! What's more, only extra-dry Normandy butter is used for the viennoiseries, which have the crispiness of the good stuff! In the pastry department, everything is delicious! There's also a savoury section and a choice of drinks to enjoy on the premises (coffee) or to take away.

Atypical, this huge restaurant is arranged around barachois = fishponds. A miracle of water and greenery, it's a romantic place, despite its vocation for groups. Choose a table outside under the varangue or in one of the rondavels on stilts, and sample the fabulous cuisine of Mr Hang's battalions. The speciality of the place: camarons, caught at the last moment and cooked on the spot. But fish, seafood, lamb or duck cooked over a wood fire are not bad either. On the public beach of Le Morne, it's a large shaded terrace facing the sea, with several tables directly on the sand. The atmosphere is that of a large, friendly gargote, with a team of cooks whipping up fast food (paninis, burgers, fries, etc.), mixed salads, Creole and Asian specialties, including curries and grilled camarons. Yum! The prices aren't outrageously high, like the place itself, which attracts tourists from nearby luxury hotels as well as locals and kitesurfers on their lunch break.

In the open air, under large umbrellas, it is the active heart of the Ruisseau Créole shopping center: a hub of life where you can sit down at any time, between two shopping trips, for a coffee, a detox juice, a smoothie, a quick and inexpensive dish such as a croque monsieur, a panini or a mixed salad. On weekends, we come for the sports events, the regular and festive theme nights ( live music in particular) or for an aperitif before a barbecue at Medium Rare, the restaurant in the center, or a musical evening at The 21. Nice!

It is the bistronomic address of the corner, convivial like a Lyon "bouchon" and full of French references, starting with the chef who comes directly from Haute Savoie. The return to our roots is apparent as soon as we cross the threshold: checkered tablecloths, benches, a collection of old posters, and a cuisine on the slate made with fresh local products revisited or directly imported from the Rungis market. The dining room makes no effort to be stylish, and the service is "à la bonne franquette", but the restaurant has been around for ages, welcoming regulars and holidaymakers alike. People come here for their seafood dishes, but in reality they eat a bit of everything! Try the shrimp, crab, grilled fish, venison steak in season, one of the many beef, pork or chicken recipes... For small budgets or quick appetites, there's a choice of Chinese dishes, snacks, omelettes and salads. A few tables outside on the sidewalk.

It's the oldest restaurant in the West, a haven for hunters in the pre-tourist era, a convivial place where people came to recount their exploits and feast with their rifles slung over their shoulders! From these bygone days, the establishment has retained a semblance of rustic charm, recently revitalized by local youth. While game (venison, wild boar) and/or seafood are still on offer, the courtyard is a popular venue for long aperitifs and festivities on Thursday evenings. The ancestor has the wind in his sails!

The only Thai restaurant on the West Coast. As tradition dictates, guests are encouraged to share their dishes and accompany them with rice and noodles, as well as a bowl of soup. Well-known to the small world of night owls and very popular at weekends, this large pub-resto-nightclub is not only a festive place crowded on the evenings of sporting events. It is also a friendly restaurant where you can sit indoors in an ethnic-inspired setting or, better still, on the terrace in the garden, next to the long bar and the children's playground. If meat is one of the specialities of the table, the varied menu wanders between several regions. There is a choice of snacks and tapas if you are more in the mood to drink and feast.

In an area where many South Africans reside, here is a pure local product that will not disappoint carnivores. All the classics are on the menu: chicken livers in Péri Péri sauce, T-Bone, filet, rump steak, ribs, garlic bread, burgers... and send in the fries and baked potatoes! For the ladies: smoked salmon terrine, grilled fish of the day, calamari... Nice wine list, nice setting and this commendable highlighting of local artistic production by the exhibition of paintings to look at and/or buy.

At the southern exit of La Gaulette, bursting with bright colours along the coastal road, it is the HQ of the sailors of the region, kitesurfers in the lead! In season (from June to October), it is crowded. The rest of the year, it's always full of surfers, cool people, travellers who have come to challenge One Eye and who love this family bar atmosphere where they can enjoy delicious pizzas (especially), lasagne, grilled fish, chocolate fudge... Well-known to local gourmets who used to come here to stock up on calissons and macaroons, Emma and her team run this little open-air café at one end of Ruisseau Créole. Here, a few ladies are busy concocting the famous cakes, and a selection of freshly homemade sushi, maki, sashimi and more, made to order. There's no mischief to be found on this relaxed terrace, where gourmet pleasures are the only thing on offer! Good news: honest prices mean you can enjoy twice as much. Also available to take away.

We love the setting of this small restaurant which offers the privilege of a lush tropical garden well set back from the coastal road and the charm of a pretty wooden house nestled among the trees. We are on Thai soil, at the cook Ousaporn's who prepares, as in her country, spring rolls, chicken skewers with satay sauce and other dishes from there. Sensitive taste buds, please check the icons so you don't come out with your mouth on fire! In the adorable vegetable garden are grown the herbs used to make the dishes so tasty.
