The largest cross-country ski area in the United States welcomes you with its 330 km of trails on nearly 2,500 hectares, and 6 different trail systems (and also 8 heated huts). The animals have their own trail. A connecting trail leads to the Sugar Bowl resort. Skate skiing and snowboarding lessons are available. For a memorable day of mountain biking at Lake Tahoe. This company rents bikes and offers two scenic routes: Flume Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail. The famous Flume Trail is a 45+ mile loop (half of which is strenuous climbing) for experts only. We recommend that you take the shuttle bus to Spooner Lake and do only the 22 km of the return trip, which takes from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on your pedaling ability. Dixie II departs from the east end of the lake, at Zephyr Cove Resort. The Tahoe Queen departs from South Lake Tahoe, at Ski Run Marina.

Northstar is by far the most upscale resort on Lake Tahoe. Located on the north side of the lake, it covers more than 1,200 acres with a 690-meter vertical drop. Built on the site of a former local sawmill, the area includes 93 trails, some of which are dedicated to cross-country skiing, a village, hotels and other accommodations. In summer, Northstar offers outdoor activities and an 18-hole golf course. Lift prices are a bit higher, but the park and its scenery - with panoramic mountain views - are beautiful.
