Budget & Tips
For kitesurfing in Zanzibar. If you want to try kitesurfing, take a multi-day package, including lessons + equipment (or even accommodation for some hotels with clubs). It's much cheaper than trying it one day at a time. In Pajé and Jambiani, the smaller clubs are cheaper than the bigger ones, so if you're on a tight budget, negotiate! In Zanzibar, everything is negotiable.
Your documents please
You need PADI certification to dive in deep spots, and dive clubs in Zanzibar, as well as in Unguja, Pemba and Mafia, are very strict about legislation, both for safety and legal liability reasons. However, introductory dives are organized at shallow depths, and all clubs offer PADI certification. What better setting than Zanzibar for certification?
To be booked
Diving. Divers will of course be well advised to book their stay with all-inclusive accommodation + diving packages, which are more advantageous. For water-based activities, tour times are subject to change, depending on the tides, and whether you want to go sailing or snorkeling will depend on the water level. So be sure to book your tour one or two days in advance, so you don't miss out.
Main events
In Zanzibar. For several years now, the ZanZibar Beach & Watersports Festival has been organized in Pajé, mixing kitesurfing, sailing, windsurfing, volleyball... Let's hope this festival will last for a long time!
