The best restaurants Nosy Be

Papillon is a restaurant with Italian accents, a warm, well-cared-for décor (even in the toilets), and more than convincing cuisine. We regret the higher prices and smaller portions, but it's all good! Grouper steak, calamari with fresh ginger, Rossini-style tournedos, all accompanied by a fine Italian wine. The terrace and patio at the back are also very pleasant. One of the best addresses in town, in our opinion. The owner also owns Karibo, in Ambatoloaka.

Chief Alexandre Memery is not at his first address! And as a result, he held a restaurant on Saint-Germain Boulevard in Paris and then the famous Bois de Bois on the shores of Lake Annecy before opening this address to Nosy Be. Refined and elegant, its cuisine adapts local flavors to local fresh produce. The specialties of the house: Stuffed chicken and cute pork with prunes of Agen, but there is also stuffed calamar, old-fashioned trips or duck duck. Certainly one of the best tables on the island. In addition, the overcrowded terrace offers a breathtaking view of the island. A success.

Julie Peyrel runs this little eatery, which we'd happily adopt as a "canteen" if we lived there! A late breakfast, a detox juice, a few tapas at aperitif time... That's what Nosy Tagada is there for, with its small terrace opening onto the street and its pretty dining room. It's fast, tasty and well-presented, and you'll always find something to please your palate between the copious savoury galettes and sweet crêpes, and the local specialities revisited in the French style (camarons flambéed in pastis, fillet of grouper on chorizo cream, etc.) Yum!

Very beautiful setting on the waterfront for this elegant address. On the menu, Mediterranean cuisine and a choice of Malagasy and Asian dishes made with fresh products: oysters from Nosy Be, carpaccio of Grouper, Thazar aioli, marmite of the sea, farandole of sushis, etc. and some sweet treats and good homemade ice creams and sorbets. At lunchtime, dish + dessert formula for a low price lunch. Also suggestions of the day on the slate and a menu of snacks available in continuous service, from 10 am to 10 pm, for the small hungers. A good address.

A very correct, efficient and cheap address with beautiful salads, fried apples, grilled calamars, small vegetables, pasta with good sauces and seafood.

Benefiting from one of the most beautiful settings of the sector, this good table of Nosy Be declines a fresh and creative kitchen which attracts the travelers as the locals. We like the view, as well as the lounge areas, the subdued lighting in the evening, the freshwater pool on the garden side and the seawater pool on the ocean side. The menu, which gives a large place to the sea products brought daily by the fishermen (king mackerel, lobsters...), also proposes Malagasy specialties revisited by the chef: pumpkin zebu and coconut milk, zebu carpaccio with parmesan...

A very pleasant setting, on one of the most beautiful beaches of the island, which honors a refined French-Malagasy cuisine, according to the arrival of the day. You will be served a cuisine-brasserie with raw fish specialties and asiatic-malgacho-creole touches... We remain here in a "straw hut" spirit with our feet in the sand, but in a high-end version! Since 2020, Richard, a Frenchman in love with Madagascar, has taken over the management of this institution in Nosy Be. On Sundays, orchestras come to make the moment even more pleasant! We like it.

A classic setting, classic French cuisine and a little bandied atmosphere. Some of them enjoy relaxation over the day.

Located on the main street of Ambatoloaka, Ze Burger is easy to spot with its red tables and white chairs. It is a very nice little address which proposes good zebu burgers (we will appreciate for example in the evening to settle our stomach), as well as pasta, breaded dishes and salads, which we found a little less interesting during our visit. We appreciate in particular the balcony which gives on the street, another way to appreciate the agitation of the city.

Tapas, zebu burgers (extra), pizzas, Malagasy and Thai dishes, but also fresh and hearty seafood! A warm and friendly welcome, in a friendly setting and in a spirit of solidarity with the local population. Nono has developed its cuisine over time, we particularly like mushroom sauces, which remind us of its European roots. Of course, good rums....

Very nice restaurant-bar with a family clientele and regulars. Michel, a passionate Toulousan and a fine rugby connoisseur, never misses a match on the big screen that dominates the bar, with flags and pennants. You can taste seafood in all its forms: fish in curry, carpaccio or tartar, shrimps with pineapple, octopus stew, squid in Basque sauce; but also osso buco, zebu tongue or goat with Madagascar spices. The products are fresh, the plates copious, the atmosphere very cool and the staff attentive.

Located on the site of the old restaurant Chez Teresa (for those who came a few years ago), the Dagli Amici is a nice place, in front of the Taxi Be. You will easily recognize it with its little red wooden house, planted right on the side of the road. Of Italian inspiration, as its name suggests, the address proposes very good pizzas, delicious pasta dishes, but also seafood dishes such as lobster, octopus and finally grilled meat. A rich and varied menu that will delight the gourmets!

Not a restaurant, but a character: on order, Guillaume book dried meat (of zébu or pig), bread, brioches, dried tomatoes… 

Since March 2017 the Nosy Ben, the restaurant of the Clair de Lune hotel has been taken over by Benoit Bernard, the star chef of French cuisine, who has made this establishment an indispensable table on the island. On the menu the products found on the market in the morning. Open to visitors, it also offers cooking classes.

An atmospheric musical bar, hosted by Brigitte and Laurent Dufey, a Malgo-Swiss couple who have settled in this dream setting. Europeans and tourists alike gather here at lunchtime to enjoy grilled fish, calamari, shrimp and zebu fillets. The restaurant is equipped with board games to share on the terrace between two readings. On request, excursions can be organized with local guides. The restaurant also offers accommodation for 3 people in an individual bungalow with shower.

Reopening in October 2023 under new management. The view is breathtaking, the cuisine refined, and the emphasis on local ingredients remains: vegetables, herbs and condiments come from the kitchen garden, the poultry is free-range, the fish is freshly caught, and the menu includes caviar from Madagascar. Plans are afoot to create a rum to enhance meals. On the eco side, a solar energy system covers the entire property, with water drawn from the Mont Passot aquifer. As a bonus, a sumptuous sunset.

A little restaurant without the way you eat. As you will remember, Ernest has self-proclaimed the king of lobster. His table is as well known as the Loulou. Just as popular on Sundays.

One of the best addresses in Ambatoloaka and the best Italian restaurant in the area (which was the only one for a long time!). A varied menu of Italian specialties and seafood. Perfectly mastered cooking and Mediterranean flavors with quality products, which your palate will remember. Colorful and warm atmosphere, excellent service. The restaurant is just in front of the tuk-tuk station, on the main street, which is very convenient, but we prefer to sit inside than on the terrace, to be more quiet.

Pleasant setting with a lovely terrace and wooden furniture. In the morning, enjoy fresh Nosy Komba fruit and juices made from soursop, mango, pineapple, papaya... At lunch and dinner, zebu, chicken, shrimp, fish of the day, grilled or garlic-sautéed squid, coconut crab... Simple and masterful. You'll spend a pleasant moment here, taking the time to savour. Thursday nights are karaoke nights, Fridays and Saturdays are DJ nights, and Sundays are alcohol-free nights for young people. There are also wrestling evenings and open-air balls, weather permitting.

At Jeannot's, we cook seafood: shrimps, crabs, squid, fish, as well as chicken and zebu fillet. Side dishes include rice, sautéed potatoes and vegetables, and pasta. For those with a sweet tooth, flambéed bananas and pineapples. You can also connect to the Internet, or drink a pastaga while playing boules. We also like the Gargotte Ravinala, "Chez Christian", which used to work at Les Floralies, and now serves hearty, inexpensive cuisine that delights the palate. Two good places to eat in Ampangorina.
