EL GATO GRÍS

Bar and caf
4.5/5
2 reviews

Just a few steps away from the Chorro de Quevedo square, the "Grey Cat" is a café-restaurant with a bohemian and romantic atmosphere, where you can come to drink a hot chocolate during the day, or gather at night with friends, to enjoy concerts of jazz bands, salsa, or folklore of the Pacific coast. Concerts scheduled around 8-9pm often start much later. The setting is rustic, with rickety stairs and lots of small intimate rooms, perfect for a romantic dinner. Nice service, but the wait is sometimes long for food.

Cine Colombia has many theaters in Bogotá, in most of the large shopping centers. Many big North American productions are shown, except in two cinemas where independent, national and international films are shown (with subtitles): Cine Colombia Avenida Chile (Calle 72) and Cine Colombia Calle 100 (Iserra 100, Calle 100 con Suba). Often 2 or 3 independent films every day, at very affordable prices.

CAFÉ DE LA PEÑA

Bar and caf
3/5
1 review

This pastelería francesa (French pastry shop) is run by Colombians. The quality is top-notch, and Café de la Peña has become a traditional meeting place for Candelaria residents and tourists in search of sweet treats. A venue for art exhibitions, it also boasts a pleasant patio with flowers at the back, under a glass roof. The pastries are quite good, especially compared with the Colombian standard, which is often overloaded with cream. Good coffee roasted on site, too, to accompany your postrecito.

DOÑA CECI

Bar and caf

For more than 40 years, Cecilia Ortiz, better known as Doña Ceci, has been delighting students in La Candelaria and partygoers from all over the world in her bar, which was once a simple tiendita (a neighborhood grocery store that also serves alcohol). A colorful tavern for a late afternoon or late evening drink, with a small concert area, cheap polas (beers) andaguardiente . The kind of simple, authentic and warm atmosphere that Manu Chao likes, who sometimes comes to sing when he is in Bogotá!

MATIK MATIK

Cafconcert

This very small bar, which also wants to be an alternative cultural space, promotes since 2008 artists of more or less experimental music, from punk to cumbia, through traditional music, or jazz. The stage is tiny and we are close to the artists, the atmosphere is there. They also serve delicious arranged rums and events are proposed almost every night: concerts, performances, conferences, documentaries or independent films projections... A good plan for the amateurs of the undergrounds arts.

TEATRO COLÓN

This neoclassical theater, with its beautiful stone façade, is the symbol of the cultural life of the capital. Built by the Italian architect Pietro Cantini in 1885 and inaugurated in 1892, it was named after Christopher Columbus to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. Declared a National Monument in 1975, it was restored between 2008 and 2011.
