HISTORY NOTE

OUR RICH HISTORY

Hamn i Senja has been called "Hamn" or "Havn" (which also means "port") since the early 1600s. In the summer of 1869, Eilert Brox found nickel ore on his farm and the Englishman Henry Hussey Vivian then built the Senja nickel mine. During this period, about 650 people lived in Hamn, compared to less than 10 today.

In 1994, the old buildings were renovated and turned into an intimate vacation resort with 12 apartments and a small restaurant. Times had changed, and suddenly people came from all over the country, and also from all over the world, to visit the new Hamn. After only one year in business, Hamn became Norway's Product of the Year - an award given to travel companies for developing well-organized activity packages. In September 2005 a fire destroyed all buildings but the owner family decided to rebuild everything and after almost 3 years, Hamn was finally able to open its doors to guests once again! Today you can still feel the pleasant, peaceful and maritime atmosphere and a perfect base for many activities in the surrounding area.

WHO WE ARE

Hamn i Senja is a beautifully situated vacation and conference resort on the west coast of the island of Senja in Northern Norway. Since 1994, this historic fishing resort has established itself as a renowned vacation resort offering a wide range of activities, as well as a desirable conference destination in Norway. The name "Hamn" means "harbor", and Hamn has been a safe port for many fishermen for hundreds of years. Today, the hundreds of islets and islands in the "Caribbean sea" are used as an adventure destination for visitors from around the world.

We have different kind of accommodation types from small Economy rooms to Studio rooms with kitchenette as well as Suites with floor-to-ceiling windows with amazing view over the sea, separate living room and fully equipped kitchen as well as separate sleeping room. Our brand new Aurora rooms will take your breath away with floor-to-ceiling windows with incredible view over the Nordic sea and maybe Northern Lights or the Midnight sun, a shower and separate bathtub, spacious, private balcony, including free use of our outdoor hot tub and the use of sauna.

If you just want to pass by for a coffee, waffle, lunch and dinner our restaurant Storbrygga Spiser is the perfect location for a stop with fantastic view continuing exploring the island!

A wide range of activities such as kayaking, wildlife & fjord safari by boat, hiking, snowshoeing, fishing, Northern Lights and the Midnight sun await you here - also if you are not hotel guest you are more than welcome to come for a visit!

direct flights from Oslo several times a day to Tromsø, Evenes and also to Bardufoss airport
