In Luang Prabang, all the villages of the locality participate in a contest for the election of the most beautiful illuminated boat.

Festival of Fireboats, or Festival of Lights. Candlelight processions take place in the town in the evening, with the launching of small boats illuminated by candles that each family has made from banana leaves decorated with flowers and incense. In Luang Prabang, all the local villages take part in a competition to choose the most beautiful boat. On this special day, everyone wears the traditional costumes of their ethnic group, and the celebrations are accompanied by singing, dancing and fireworks.
