The Museum of Western Australia reopened in 2020 after extensive renovation work, under the name Boola Bardip, meaning "many stories" in the Noongar language of the local Aborigines. Housed in a former prison dating from 1891, now beautifully transformed into a museum, the facility offers a fascinating exploration of Western Australia's history, including its Aboriginal past, as well as its natural history, including the geology, flora and fauna of the area. 4. The Bell Tower

In Elizabeth Quay, although slightly hidden among the imposing skyscrapers, The Bell Tower is a must-see on your visit to this Western Australian city. It's the world's largest instrument, consisting of 18 bells. Every Thursday and Sunday, from 12 noon to 1 p.m., these bells offer a unique concert of sound. Twelve of the bells were donated by the British government in 1988, from London's St. Martin in the Fields Church, to mark the bicentenary. 8. St Mary's Cathedral

Construction of the neo-Gothic St Mary's Cathedral began in the 1860s, and it hosts several masses every week. Located in the heart of Victoria Square, it was Perth's first Catholic church. Over the course of its history, the cathedral has undergone several renovations and attempted renovations. However, it was not until the years 1990-2000 that work was completed. This work was interrupted during the Great Depression, leaving the cathedral unfinished for almost 70 years. The nave of the cathedral remains original.

Freemantle is located 20 km south-west of Perth and is a great place to get away from it all. Founded in 1829, it's a vibrant, picturesque port at the mouth of the Swan River, easily accessible by train, bus or boat. Its vast port remains Western Australia's main import-export hub.
