KREOL WEST INDIES
A space promoting arts and heritage, with a scenography recreating prehistoric and historic periods.
Kreol West Indies is a space for the promotion of arts and heritage, and a major point of interest for cultural tourism. This innovative historical exhibition concept acts as a time machine, combining contemporary art and heritage objects. The original scenography recreates each prehistoric and historical period in chronological strata: "Pre-Columbian Civilizations", "Freebooters and Piracy", "Early Colonization", "Creole Interiors from the 18th to the 20th Century" and "The 1940s". This recently expanded permanent exhibition (400 m²), entitled " 4,000 Years of History", features a large collection of West Indian furniture in a villa set in a tropical garden. All this is combined with contemporary works of art by renowned West Indian artists. Félie-Line Lucol, François Piquet, Jean-Marc Hunt, Bénito, Yeswoo and Jean-Marie Heraud exhibit over 300 works both indoors and in the 2,000m2 landscaped park, which features sculptures and installations. An eco-citizen boutique also sells Beach Wear, local products, bags and accessories made from recycled sailcloth and materials. It promotes the Terre d'Azur humanitarian association, whose products it sells. The site has recently been extended to include temporary exhibitions, which change every month, and an artistic residency. The artists featured are local and international (Congo, Ivory Coast, Argentina...) painters and sculptors.
