Practical information : Take a break Austria
Timetable
At any time of day, you can enjoy a drink and a pastry in the cafés. And you can stay as long as you like.
Budget & Tips
In cafés and restaurants alike, it's customary to leave a tip. Drinks and snacks are relatively expensive, even very expensive for a Sachertorte in one of Vienna's famous café-teahouses. If you're on a tight budget, modest cafés and tearooms offer excellent value for money.
Age restrictions
The sale of alcoholic beverages to minors is forbidden in Austria. And waiters are generally strict about it.
What's very local
You don't just order a coffee. The list of possible alternatives is long. Check before you order, or ask a friendly waiter who has the time to explain... At the Vienna tourist office, you may be provided with an explanatory map.
Kids
Bars usually have highchairs for small children and adapted drinks and even treats.
Smokers
We don't smoke in bars, but we do on terraces, at least if it doesn't bother other consumers.
